Gardeners World Live (GWL) has revealed new plans to establish themselves as the “biggest plant-selling show” in the entire United Kingdom.
The RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) relieved themselves of involvement from the event after the latest show in June, and has now gone on to establish a rival show for 2017 at Chatsworth in Derbyshire, which we featured in our blog at the beginning of last month.
RHS’s former shows director Stephen Bennett has now moved on to working at the River Street Events-organised GWL and has taken the opportunity to appoint Oak Tree Nursery owner Cliff Plowes as the first nurseryman as horticulture manager of a big garden event.
Mr Bennett who left his job with the RHS after 28 years, in 2013, is now a freelance events manager, said the Birmingham show would now be able to change its exhibiting rules, judging, and medals.
“It gives us freedom to come up with incentives for exhibitors to put up really good horticultural displays, enjoy full recognition and make GWL the biggest plant-selling show in the UK. It’s going to be massively attractive to the UK nursery trade. It will be stimulating, fresh and different. We’re not trying to mimic the RHS.”
He also went on to say that the new arrangements for staging and award systems are focused on making the show more appealing to the gardening public and exhibitors alike.
Exhibitors are “cock-a-hoop” with Plowes’ position for the event because “he is one of them and knows about exhibiting”, added Bennett.
Should you want to enjoy what’s on offer at Gardener’s World Live, the dates for the events are, 16-19 June 2016, and 15-18 June in 2017, so you have plenty of time to get your own garden in tip top shape once you’ve visited our lawn mower mechanics, North Devon.
